Steel Speaker

$ 2 750

This speaker was handcrafted by blacksmith Jonas Majors in his workshop on the island of Mörkö south of Stockholm. The Steel Speaker is a heavy beast of 20 kilograms. It is supposed to manifest the power of our big speaker acoustic platform by its mere presence. The electronic appliance industry seems many times over crowded by black boxes. Therefore we saw it as our challenge to make the black box into a sculptural piece of craft that elevates a contemporary designed interior rather than violating it.

The Transparent Steel Sound

Transparent sound refers to a loudspeakers ability to channel the true intention of a musician through to the listener. We tune the driver magnets to perform perfectly in the unique sealed acoustic volumes creating high quality sounds from our premium components. Our special editions come with the same five star sound performance as our permanent collection. With the heavy steel we get a deep slightly warm timbre (tone color) adding an extremely subtle touch that makes the object even more interesting and personal just like an instrument.

Modular Design

A modular design is key for future proofing our products. It enables repairs and upgradability. Below you can explore the carbon footprint on a component level.

Interactive Carbon Footprint

Extending the lifetime of our products is the single most important factor we can do to fight climate change. With smart tech being built into loudspeakers of today they become quickly outdated.

Use the slider below to see how the carbon footprint change if you choose to upgrade or replace your loudspeaker every 5 years.
The climate impact of materials and components are based on the weights of material used in the product, and calculated using generic data from the LCA database Ecoinvent. The calculations include climate impact related to raw material extraction and processing, and manufacturing processes.
The climate impact of assembly is based on an estimated average electricity use for assembling the speaker.
The climate impact of packaging is based on actual packaging weights, and calculated with generic data from the LCA database Ecoinvent.
The climate impact of transportation are calculated based on generic data from the LCA database Ecoinvent. The calculations include transports from suppliers and an estimated transport to customer.
The climate impact during the use phase comes from electricity use. The impact is calculated using a scenario of 500 hours of use per year, a measured energy consumption of each speaker and an electricity mix representing the global average.
The climate impact of waste treatment at the product's end of life is calculated using generic waste treatment scenarios for electronical products, available in the LCA modelling software SimaPro.

Jonas Majors

Jonas has his smith on Mörkö, an island about an hour south of Stockholm. In front of large fields and among old woods, he works with metal in old and new ways. He mastered the old techniques that are often used to forge various decorative and functional details in iron, brass or copper, but he also works with modern techniques such as welding or computer controlled plasma cutting. Jonas has learned for a long time the characteristics of the metal, and he appreciates projects that allow him to stretch a little on the normal limits, that allow him to apply his knowledge in new areas.
