In conversation with Cici Cava

Ireland-born and Ibiza based artist, Cici Cava is a well-regarded DJ and producer on the rise sharing her thoughts on her creative process, her passion for music, and plans for the future. Read the full article to find out more about her favorite clubs all around Europe, how she got into dj-ing and listen to the playlist she created that’s on repeat on her Transparent Speaker.
Let’s start with the most common. Tell us a bit about yourself!
- I'm a DJ/ Producer originally from Dublin but have been living between London and Ibiza for the past ten years while also travelling around for shows. Other than music my interests are all things cosmic, art, nature, food and dogs!

How did you get into DJ-ing?
- I got into DJing as I started a club while studying Fine Art in college, the rest is history. I guess I just fell in love with the nightlife although my passion for music began with my father who was a very talented musician and so I was always immersed in music growing up.

Do you have a dream location to dj at?
- To be honest I have been very fortunate to have been able to play at most of my dream locations, Fabric in London was definitely one for the books. But for sure Berghain in Berlin and DC10 in Ibiza are still on that list!

Tell us about your favourite gig to date.
- This past weekend I had some of my best gigs to date at Junction 2 in Tobacco Dock in London followed by playing the afterparty in Fabric London, which for sure is one of my favourite places to play at always! It was so nice to come back to it after such a long time away and just have the two most fun gigs ever.
Describe your music and what we can expect from the playlist.
- The music that I produce and play out is quite dark and heavy, so that's the kind of sound you can expect to hear me play usually in a club. But I am also seriously multifaceted when it comes to my taste and I have a deep love for jazz, ambient and even classical music. This kind of music definitely comes through more on my radio show 'Curiosities' on OpenLab and when I play in Pikes in Ibiza. In this playlist that I put together for you guys, I wanted to reflect some downtime home listening vibes which is on repeat right now on my Transparent Speaker.

Tell us a little bit about your time living in Ibiza and the influence it had on you as a person and your music.
- Living in Ibiza has taught me a lot about the connection between the DJ and the crowd and how they interact in symbiotic unison, how important it is to play for the people present and not just oneself.

What is your biggest source of inspiration?
- In nature and in my own dreams and daydreams. I have always had a very vivid imagination where I find solace and escapism whenever I need it.

Since you live in Ibiza, what is your go-to places that you recommend for everyone reading this article?
- My favourite restaurants are Re:Art, Fish Shack & El Silencio, Nightclubs its gotta be DC10 and Amnesia as my all-time favourites and for beaches, I love the North of the island like Cala Xarraca, Cala Den Serra and Portinax.

When you’re not working, what are you doing?
- I am on the beach taking a nap!

Lastly, what’s happening next for Cici?
- I have another EP coming on Me Me Me records followed by a packed winter schedule of some amazing gigs, it's not looking like I will be slowing down any time soon !!
